Estes interruptores de parede funcionam normalmente como controladores estáticos, uma vez que são fixos num determinado ponto da sala. Eles controlam outros dispositivos Z-Wave tais como interruptores de luz, dimmers ou persianas. Os dispositivos Z-Wave a serem controlados precisam de ser associados com o controlador de parede.
Os controladores de parede Z-Wave distinguem-se pela sua cor e design como elementos de uma série de interruptores completa, designada muitas vezes como aparelhagem. Uma característica diferenciadora adicional é a fonte de alimentação, que se realiza tanto através do 230 V como de uma bateria. O controlador de parede Z-Wave pode controlar um dispositivo Z-Wave ou grupos de dispositivos. Se existir apenas um botão, apenas um máximo de dois grupos podem ser controlados (pressionando uma vez o botão controla um grupo, pressionando o botão duas vezes duas vezes controla o segundo grupo). Se o interruptor de parede tiver dois botões, podem ser controlados até 4 grupos de dispositivos.
